Uptown Girl
Our own West Side story, Cardamom Swirl Loaves, Get ready 4 Babka, Vegan Paleo cookie recipe
Super exciting news!
This Sunday is our first market on the Upper West Side, our tent will be at the corner of 77th and Columbus Avenue (right behind the American Museum of Natural History).
It's a dream long in the planning stages—and we’re extremely grateful for the opportunity from GrowNYC, which curates the greenmarkets across the city. Each market we are part of is thoughtfully-balanced with bakers, farmers, flower growers, and other producers by the GrowNYC organization. A request for a new market can sometimes take many years to accommodate, which is why this is such a special moment for us. Our bakery believes deeply in the regional grains movement; to expand within the GrowNYC greenmarkets is our favorite way to grow.
When I think about how I want to expand my business, I don’t think about Excel spreadsheets or Powerpoint charts. What comes to mind is the view I see from behind the stand: the familiar faces, the small but meaningful conversations, kismet connections, and how each of these fill my spiritual cup by the end of the day. Strangers striking up conversations with each other about which flavor loaf is their favorite, ways they are preparing with the seasonal produce, sharing ideas about what they are cooking. “The Stand” is its own organic holistic community that is connected by the love of Knead Love, but also so much more.
September has been a high vibe month so far, with more birthday parties and events than the entire summer. For many of my friends, it’s a harvest moment—with creative seeds they planted so long ago finally coming to beautiful fruition. One effort has been 25 years in the making with Kate and Andrew opening their first Manhattan restaurant, Borgo, Camille on her book tour, Heidi’s book on the power of prayer, Latonya’s third book launching, Amy putting the final touches on her new brand of holistic bath salts.
I will forever champion friends who follow their dreams, as they did for me. Anyone who uses their innate talents to grow a business is a brave dreamer and inspiration.
CARDAMOM SWIRL LOAVES
New flavors for a new season. Introducing our Cardamom swirl loaves is our way of welcoming Fall flavors. Using the gluten-free sourdough base from our Cinny Buns, this loaf has organic cardamom mixed into the cinnamon bun filling, rolled into a giant loaf, baked over an hour, and sliced into thick slices. The goo from the carmelized filling is other-worldly, especially when warmed up. We will be offering full loaves starting next week online for preorder.
BABKA TIME!
Keep an eye out next week for our pre-orders for our special Babka (Gluten-free sourdough, vegan). Its made with organic, fair-trade chocolate from Raaka and Fine + Raw, the loaves can be sliced, frozen, and toasted just like our bread, or the base for an epic french toast breakfast.
We only make this once a year, for nationwide shipping, local delivery, and market pickup. There will be some available at the market in limited quantities.

This paleo, vegan cookie recipe has been in my repertoire for many years; its a blank canvas for adding flavors like matcha, cocoa, rose, or keeping it simple and plain. I love using it for different shaped cookie cutters throughout the year, and when my kids were little we used this for playdates as the dough is quick and easy to make.
